CENCDA Who We Are

Consortium of Ethiopian Non-Communicable Diseases Association (CENCDA) is Ethiopian Consortium established on October 11, 2010.The consortium is established by five founding member organizations operating on NCDs in Ethiopia. The founding members of CENCDA include, Mathiwos Wondu -YeEthiopia Cancer Society (MWECS), YeEthiopia Cancer Association, Ethiopian Diabetes Association, Ethiopian Kidney Association and Ethiopian Heart Association. Ethiopian Thoracic Society and Alem Fre Pink House Cancer Foundation has joined the consortium as full members to enhance the fight against NCDs through collaborative efforts.

The consortium works on awareness, education, capacity building activities and encourages the public to recognize Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and protect themselves from its impact. CENCDA, has been working along with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders in its advocacy role to increase awareness of NCDs among the wider population . . .

Easter at Black Lion: A Celebration of Hope and Healing

This Easter, joy and hope filled the pediatric oncology ward of Black Lion Hospital as cancer patients and their families were treated to a special holiday celebration. Bright decorations, music, and heartfelt moments reminded everyone that they are not alone in their fight. “We felt so much love and care today—it gives us strength,” said one mother thanking Mathewos Wondu YeEthiopia Cancer Society. Many parents expressed that the emotional upliftment could only help speed up their children’s healing. The event, though simple, became a powerful symbol of compassion and solidarity.

Sustaining Lives with Insulin and Opportunity

The Ethiopian Diabetes Association is transforming lives not only through health care, but also through empowerment. Its insulin distribution program is a lifeline for children living with diabetes—children who, without it, would face devastating consequences. But the support doesn’t stop there. Mothers of these children have been given injera-making stoves and tools to generate income and provide stability. “Now I can care for my daughter and also support us financially,” shared one grateful mother. This holistic approach is a beacon of sustainable care and dignity.

Healing Hearts: Life-Saving Surgeries Through Volunteerism

In a life-changing collaboration, the Ethiopian Heart Association partnered with volunteer medical surgeons to perform heart surgeries for patients in need. For those suffering from life-threatening conditions, these surgeries were more than medical procedures—they were a second chance at life. Families who once feared losing loved ones now speak of renewed hope. “This saved my son’s life,” said one parent tearfully. The initiative demonstrates how skilled hands and generous hearts can rewrite someone’s future.
